...Windy Conditions and Light Snowfall Possible by Sunday...

A strengthening low pressure system will move northeast into the tennessee river valley by this evening... bringing widespread showers and a few thunderstorms. String southeasterly winds will descend the mountain slopes today and will likely keep most rain from affecting the great tennessee valley until later this afternoon towards sunset. These strong upper level winds will gradually shift to the west later tonight...and will begin to increase in the valleys by Sunday...As much colder air moves into the region and temperatures fall thgoughout the day.

Rain will gradually change to snow towards sunrise on Sunday... initially across the higher elevations. It appears right now that most moisture will exit the region before the sub- freezing air arrives. However...a light snow accumulation of one to three inches will be possible by sunday evening across the higher elevations of southwest virginia and east tennessee...mainly above 2500 feet.

A wind advisory is in effect fot the mountains today and tonight... and may need to be expanded into the valleys for later tongiht and Sunday. In addition...a snow advisory may also be needed for the higher elevations of southwest virginia and northeast Tennessee on Sunday.

It's mainly because of the wind and then the possibility of a snow advisory. Sadly, even the rain amounts went down (again due to downsloping), not that it's a bad thing with flooding a concern across KY, and also some are dealing with heavy snow/freezing rain with the onset of precip...glad we missed out on that lol. The winds and any icy conditions that develop Sunday morning with the fall in temps and wet roadways, are the main concerns. Amazing just how close we are but miss out again. Right now just hope for a quick change over and some good overproducing upslope snow and the backend.
